Profile: THOMAS VON PARTY / MULTI CUTI

THOMAS VON PARTY from Montreal runs Tiga's Turbo Records who've signed the likes of Duke Dumont, Chromeo and Azari & III, owns one of the top venues Datcha, yet still find time to produce, remix and even directed one of Tiga's music videos.

Born and raised in Montreal as Thomas Sontag, TVP has been a mainstay of the Montreal’s recent electronic music scene as a DJ, label executive and owner of one of the sweetest clubs there, Datcha. He also grew up partly in Goa, the partying western Indian city with a huge Trance music scene in the early hedonistic days of rave, because his dad was also a DJ in those circles. In 2006, he joined his brother’s Tiga’s Turbo Recordings as head of A&R, and was responsible for some of its finest signings. There, he got to develop the early careers of Azari & III, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont, Brodinski, Charlotte de Witte and Chromeo - all of them are presently playing their respective parts in pushing the boundaries of the recent electronic music scene between pop and the most underground sounds.

TVP released his first original music under the label in 2013, but shortly later in the same year, he co-founded Multi Culti, his own music label which he claimed as "a more abroad spectrum of music drawing from different parts of the world, different tempos, even genres”, alongside Australian producer Dreems. Here, he gets to chart his own label’s direction, signing up releases by Red Axes, Manfredas, Nicola Cruz, Sascha Funke and the afrostylistic Peter Power. The label has a new take to world music that is more relevant to the current world of EDM. TVP opened his night club Datcha in 2014, and quickly turned it into an esteemed establishment, handling music programmer himself and keeping the dancefloor in check as its resident selector.
